Tippex

Poetry
Write Club
covers up
the mistakes we make
The people we hurt
and lead astray
a layer of
strong-smelling ambivalence
a constant reminder
of our society’s cruel ways
we carry on
as if there’s no harm done
the deaths, the heartache,
the defeated ones
corpses buried beneath
our country’s pride
countless rights lost,
just thrown to the side
and everything’s good
no harm done at all
until you start to smell the tippex
and scrape away it all
you’ll find our nation’s
fragments of inequality
the mistakes we hide away
and never let the world see.
